About Negombo Lagoon – Negombo Lagoon is a large estuarine lagoon in Negombo, south-west Sri Lanka. The lagoon is fed by a number of small rivers and a canal. It is linked to the sea by a narrow channel to the north, near Negombo city. It is surrounded by a densely populated region containing rice paddies, coconut plantations and grassland. The land is used for fishing and agriculture. The lagoon has extensive mangrove swamps and attracts a wide variety of water birds including cormorants, herons, egrets, gulls, terns and other waders. Negombo, Katunayake, Seeduwa are some nearby towns. Lagoon fishing is popular among the fishing community in Negombo. Lagoon crabs and lagoon prawns are in high taste and demand.

About the Activity –  We pick our clients from the hotel/convenient  place (10 km from the starting point is included to the price). and we offer best authentic / traditional fishing and sea food cooking /tasting experience to our clients. activity will last for 3/4 hours excluding transfers time. no need prearrangement or skills to do the activity. best time early morning around 8 or 9.00 am. we start drift through the thick mangrove islands /colorful fishing boats and busy Negombo life styles around the lagoon.

Detailed Itinerary

We are picking our clients from the hotel/convenient place around in Negombo. then start from the private Pier eastern part of the lagoon, 

We start cruising around city part of the lagoon. and through the Mangrove islands which used by local fishermen. you will pass rural life of the people, and fishermen from the lake. and of course lot of fauna and flora ex – Cormorants/Egrets/white throat kingfisher/Toque macaque/Indian Flying fox and many more.

And then we start the fishing on best selected location heart of the Lagoon. our guide/operator will show us traditional way of fishing. here they use few different methods for different varieties.  use thinly coconut sticks for catch the lagoon Crabs and the traditional equipment for lagoon clams. 

With cached fish we will back to the pier. now its time tastiest Negombo fish curry taste. our cooking demonstrator will show you why Negombo having best sea food in the country. we can make less spicy dishes as per your requirements. activity will finish after drop you back to hotel.
